Alastair Symon
About Me
My name is Alastair Symon, I’m originally from Scotland but have been living and working in Ireland since 1999. I work as an electronics engineer and freelance sound engineer.
I have been interested in electronic music since my teens when I heard ELP, Tangerine Dream and Rick Wakeman. I started off playing guitar, but always had an interest in keyboard instruments.
My first synthesizer was a broken Korg MS-10 purchased on Ebay several years ago. I then began buying, restoring and reselling vintage analog synths on Ebay, while keeping several for my own collection.
After purchasing my first modular from Synthesizers.com, which consisted of a basic 20 module system plus Q119 sequencer, I knew I had found my true interest.
Over the last 4 years, I have sold off my vintage synth collection in order to gain space in my tiny studio and to expand my modular system. My system now has 63 modules including three sequencers.
My system currently comprises modules from:
Synthesizers.com
Synthesis Technology (MOTM)
Oakley Modular Systems
Modcan
Club of the Knobs
Moonmodular
STG Soundlabs
Analogue Solutions
Doepfer
Sequencers
Synthesizers.com Q119 & Q960
Analogue Solutions Oberkorn 3
Moonmodular M563 (trigger sequencer)
My Music
My main interest is in creating melodic electronic music using only analog sequencers. I am especially interested in creating sequenced electronic versions of classical pieces. The fact that there is a serious limitation on the number of notes available from the analog sequencers presents an interesting challenge in programming the piece. I have recently acquired the excellent Analogue Solutions Oberkorn 3 sequencer which will allow me to program more complex pieces.
